Harry Styles Shares a Song He Wrote for Liam Payne, Two Years After His Death

During a recent show at Madison Square Garden, Harry Styles marked the second anniversary of Liam Payne’s death by sharing a song he wrote in honor of his late friend. On October 16, Styles surprised fans during the encore of his performance, expressing how the moment turned emotional after a typical goodnight message to the crowd.

Styles mentioned that he felt “incredibly lucky” to perform at the venue and was “incredibly proud” of a banner displaying his name, acknowledging the many people who helped him achieve his success. He reflected on the loss of friends, saying he lost one of those friends two years ago, which resonated with many in the audience.

He emphasized that his achievements are due to the support from people in his life, stating there are many who have impacted him significantly. Styles then introduced the song “What Is Enough,” which he revealed was written about two years prior for Payne. The acoustic ballad features lyrics that seem to address what Payne left behind, including a reference to his funeral in November 2024.

The audience found it challenging to hear all the lyrics, but one line stood out regarding friendship and memories. After performing this tribute, Styles concluded the evening with his songs “Sign of the Times” and “Aperture,” continuing his record-setting residency at Madison Square Garden.

The residency began in late August and is set to run until the end of October. Additionally, a documentary about the show is being created by filmmaker John Wilson. Sources say the film will blend live performances with behind-the-scenes content about Styles and the tour, with Universal Pictures Content Group acquiring the global rights.
