Love and relationships can be wonderful when both partners show respect and care for each other. However, infidelity can become a major issue, causing great pain. If an affair occurs, couples may work through it if the cheater takes responsibility. Unfortunately, many cheaters make excuses instead of acknowledging their actions, and some of these justifications are quite perplexing. Here are some of the oddest excuses that have been reported.
One person claimed they needed to find someone else because their partner couldn’t meet their needs while battling Stage 4 cervical cancer. After overcoming cancer and ending the relationship, they stated they were now living a fulfilling life. Another individual, who had just given birth, reported that their partner said they hadn’t had time together for three weeks. There was also a case where a cheater acknowledged their tendency to sabotage good situations, expressing gratitude for being caught and vowing to improve.

In many cases, people who cheat often have common excuses for their absence, thinking they won’t be discovered. They usually keep their stories uncomplicated to avoid raising suspicion. Some of the most frequently mentioned alibis involve friends or trips to the gym, leading to concern if a partner regularly uses these reasons.
One partner expressed frustration, saying they were chosen over their newborn child. Another stated they believed their actions were just a dream. In another bizarre excuse, a cheater remarked that it wasn’t their partner’s fault but theirs for not recognizing the seriousness of the situation, despite being pregnant at the time.
Research indicates that about 34% of people who cheat say they were out playing golf with friends, while 27% blame work commitments. Thirteen percent claim to be with friends, and 5% use gym visits or grocery shopping as excuses. These common activities make it difficult to discern which reports are true.
Excuses can get even stranger, as one person claimed, “You’re dating me; I’m not dating you.” Another stated there was nothing wrong with their partner but they needed to feel desired. A different excuse referenced a childhood tragedy, where someone said they behaved poorly due to their mother’s death when they were six years old.
These unusual justifications highlight the lengths some will go to when caught cheating. Private investigators note that some individuals argue that humans are not meant to be monogamous. Others claim they cheated to seek the intimacy they felt was lacking in their relationship, shifting the blame onto their partner. Some even argue that they didn’t technically cheat because they weren’t formally together, and another suggested it was their partner’s fault for looking into things.
Cheating doesn’t solve problems or improve situations, which raises questions about why some resort to it as a form of revenge. When both partners engage in toxic behaviors, it often leads to a cycle of hurt. Those who are cheated on may find themselves in a painful situation, with their partner attempting to shift blame or justify their actions.
