[OC] I completed one year without nicotine! Details inside

Hey friends! I want to share an incredible journey I’ve been on this past year—a year without nicotine! It’s been a wild ride filled with challenges and triumphs, and I hope my story inspires anyone out there who’s thinking about quitting. Buckle up, because this is one emotional rollercoaster!

Let me take you back to where it all began. I was planning an exciting trip to Southeast Asia with my family. We were flying all the way from the East coast of Canada, and I was thrilled to meet my in-laws for the very first time. But there was one major problem: I didn’t want to be stuck on a long flight, craving that nicotine fix while trying to keep up with a toddler! Can you imagine trying to juggle a restless little one and the urge to vape? It sounded like a nightmare. Plus, I didn’t want to puff around my in-laws, especially since I was meeting them for the first time. I decided then and there that it was time to quit for good.

About a few months before our trip, I found myself heading to central Canada to resolve a few things at the consulate. It was the perfect opportunity to make a big change. I purposely left my vape at home, determined to break that habit once and for all. I knew quitting wouldn’t be easy, but I was ready for the challenge.

I chose to use nicotine patches to help me with my cravings. There are three strengths of these patches: heavy, medium, and light. The plan was to stick with each strength for about a week, totaling three weeks of support. I knew I had to be disciplined. Along with the patches, I also chewed gum whenever the cravings hit hard. I’d pop 3 to 4 pieces a day just to keep my mind off the urge to smoke.

When the patches ran out, I made a bold decision: I gave away all my gum, pouches, and even my beloved vape gear to a coworker. It felt freeing but also terrifying. I knew I was making a big change, and now I had no turning back.

In the weeks that followed, I experienced a major shift in mood. The irritability kicked in for about two weeks, and boy, was it tough! I felt like a ball of nerves, but instead of reaching for my vape, I found comfort in sipping cold water. Weird, right? But it worked! I couldn’t believe how something so simple could help quiet my cravings.

Quitting vaping wasn’t the hardest thing I’ve ever faced, but it definitely wasn’t a walk in the park either. The real victory was that I stuck to my commitment. I wanted to be present, especially for my family, and I realized that nicotine had been stealing those precious moments from me. I had always turned to substances to escape when life got tough. If something felt uncomfortable or overwhelming, I would just retreat into my old habits.

But here’s where the real magic happened: with every passing day without nicotine, I found myself becoming more patient and grounded. For the first time in my life, I was able to face challenges head-on instead of running away from them. The anxiety I’d struggled with for so long began to fade away. I felt lighter, almost like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. The feeling of being present was exhilarating, and I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to really engage with my family and enjoy our trip without those nagging cravings in the back of my mind.

Fast forward to our trip, and I couldn’t believe how far I had come. I was finally meeting my in-laws without a cloud of smoke hanging over me. We explored new places, made beautiful memories, and I truly felt alive in each moment. I realized that quitting nicotine didn’t just change my habits; it transformed my entire outlook on life. I was there, fully there, for each laugh and every adventure.

Now that I look back on this past year, I can’t express how grateful I am for everyone who supported me during my journey. The encouragement I received was like a warm hug, lifting me up when I felt like giving in. I know quitting isn’t easy, and each person’s journey is unique. But if you’re thinking about making a change, I promise you, it can be done!

As I reflect on my year without nicotine, I can’t help but feel proud of what I’ve accomplished. It’s not just about quitting something—it’s about gaining so much more. I’ve gained clarity, patience, and a deeper connection with my family.

So, to all my friends out there, if you’re considering quitting or if you’ve already made the leap, I’m here cheering you on! Let’s continue this journey together. Have any of you ever tried to quit something that felt impossible? What was your story? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
