Many people’s social media accounts are filled with perfect photos that show a glamorous lifestyle. Even pictures of pets and wildlife often look so good that you might think your own photography isn’t as good. However, there is value in images where timing matters more than how they are taken. Real life may not seem as exciting as edited photos, but it can be just as interesting. The ‘Doggo Taxi’ Instagram account is an example of this, showcasing funny and unusual pictures of animals in everyday situations. This account has 57.4k followers and offers a fresh perspective on beloved animals. Some photos are so surprising that they need extra explanation. While viewing the images, feel free to click the upvote button for your favorites. One standout image is of a pigeon with a leaf on its face, which many think perfectly represents the world today. If it had a title, it could be called ‘Resilience’ or ‘Oh f****, What Now?’
Bored Panda wanted to explore animal photography, so they spoke with Michelle Wood, who is involved with the Comedy Pet Photography Awards and the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. The pigeon photo, called ‘I guess summer’s over,’ was captured by John Speirs and won an award in the latter competition last year. Bored Panda also contacted Toronto pet photographer Karen Weiler from Posh Pets Photography.

Michelle explained the differences between photographing pets and wild animals. She noted that while the basic photography rules apply, there is often more control with pets, although cats can be tricky. With pets, it may be easier to guide their behavior using treats or commands. In contrast, photographing wildlife requires more patience and observation. There are many fascinating animals to photograph, even close to home, and luck plays a role in both types of photography.
She mentioned that last year, during the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2021, the photo of the pigeon nearly won the top prize because it was well-timed and charming. This picture has become famous and widely shared online and in news outlets.
According to Michelle, patience is crucial for anyone wanting to take photos of animals. She emphasized that rushing is not helpful and knowing the animals’ habits can make a difference. Understanding when and where to shoot can lead to better pictures because the animals will be more comfortable. Bored Panda wanted to know how photographers can avoid feeling down if they miss a shot. What do you think about these animal photos?
