Deciding on a last name can be tough for couples getting married. Combining names is an option, but it can be complicated and not as enjoyable as the method chosen by Bailey Adams and Larissa Scandora from New Jersey. They shared with PEOPLE that both wanted a shared last name, but they disagreed on which one. After a lighthearted suggestion from Scandora about using a coin toss, they decided to turn their decision into a series of challenges.
Adams explained that they thought a month-long challenge would be a good way to handle such an important choice. This format allowed them to compete while having fun with different ideas. For 30 days, the couple took on various challenges, each one more amusing than the last, to determine which last name would win. They likely spent quite a bit on the inflatable costumes used for some of the tasks. Scandora praised Adams for her creative approach to the challenges, noting that both took time to come up with entertaining ideas. Their goal was to keep things lighthearted and enjoyable.

Among their popular challenges was one called “Chicken Race,” where they wore giant inflatable chicken costumes and raced to pop balloons that represented eggs. One viewer commented on the amusing sight of two giant chickens competing. In another challenge, they managed to incorporate skincare into their competition. They even experimented with ice baths, leading to some unexpected discoveries.
In the end, despite a few questionable moves during the challenges, Adams emerged as the winner. More importantly, the experience brought them closer together as a couple. Scandora reflected on how collaborating on these challenges provided a new dynamic to their relationship and highlighted their creativity. She mentioned to Upworthy that they appreciated the fun they had and the support they received from followers, which made the journey even more memorable.
As they look ahead, they may face similar decisions in the future, especially if they have children and need to choose a name. What do you think about their unique approach to deciding on a last name?
