The Price Is Right" Reveals Major Update for Season 55

The modern version of “The Price Is Right” started in 1972, featuring Bob Barker and his slim microphone as he awarded money, cars, and exciting prizes to enthusiastic contestants. Since the 1970s, the show has evolved, especially when Drew Carey took over hosting duties in 2007. For its 55th season, “The Price Is Right” is introducing a significant change that will benefit players by improving their chances of getting to Contestants’ Row. Randy West, the announcer for the national game show tour, provided some details on Facebook, noting that the situation has changed both in society and on the show itself. He mentioned that in earlier days, there were often empty seats, and audience members from the first taping were encouraged to stay for a second show. He added that potential audience members were recruited from a nearby Farmers Market and that some people were even paid to fill the empty spaces.

Randy West explained that instead of relocating to Georgia, where production costs would be lower, “The Price Is Right” decided to remain in California. However, the audience size will now be reduced significantly. The days of having more than 300 contestants trying to play Plinko are over. Starting this September, the audience for “The Price Is Right” will shrink to about a third of its previous size at Television City. This change is mainly a cost-saving measure. With the expenses of paying numerous seat-fillers for each taping day throughout the season, it raised the question of whether such a large audience was necessary. West suggested that viewers might reflect on this when the new episodes are broadcast. With fewer attendees, the chances for participants may improve. Perhaps this is a good time to give “The Price is Right” a try. What do you think about this change?
