People usually hope for an easy flight experience. They want to check-in and go through security without issues, then relax by sleeping or enjoying entertainment until they arrive. However, that doesn’t always happen. Occasionally, travelers encounter rude and entitled individuals who can easily increase anyone’s stress levels. Here are some stories shared by people about their frustrating experiences during flights.

One person shared that they had to sit in the middle seat on a flight alone because it was the only option available. Despite trying to push their seatmate away multiple times, they found that person leaning on them again after a few minutes. Another individual mentioned giving up their window seat for a child who seemed very happy to have it. Unfortunately, they ended up stuck in a middle seat, with the child’s father being bothersome throughout the flight.

In a reported incident during a flight from Amsterdam to Seattle, a man in his fifties was said to ignore all the flight rules regarding window shades and seat positions. He pretended to be asleep when a flight attendant asked him to follow the rules, leading to a confrontation where he reacted dramatically, even crying and yelling because he felt treated rudely. After landing, while passengers were told to remain seated, he stood up to access the overhead bin, which led the flight attendant to firmly instruct him to sit down again. Many agreed that the flight attendant deserved recognition for her handling of the situation.

The airport environment can be stressful, and passengers often feel as though they want to be anywhere else. According to psychotherapist Tyler Jansen, this stressful atmosphere can lead people to disregard basic social norms. In one case, a person at the airport waited until the line completely moved before they decided to move forward. When confronted, they argued that it was no different whether they moved now or later.

Another traveler described a flight in Sweden that was delayed by an hour because a three-year-old child wouldn’t sit in their seat. The child’s parents were ultimately asked to leave the flight as a result. This delay caused inconvenience for many passengers who missed connections and caused delays for the plane. Although the situation involved several loud children, one traveler noted that at least one toddler running in the aisle was quiet and cute, wishing there were options for adult-only flights in the future.
