One individual shared a heavy secret regarding their mother-in-law who was in hospice. They received a call that her last rites were being read, prompting the family to gather. The father-in-law, who had been by her side for days, seemed exhausted. After a while, he decided to go for coffee, taking the user’s husband with him. The user stayed behind and promised to call if anything changed. A few minutes later, the mother-in-law began to breathe very heavily. When the nurse arrived, she had already passed away. The user asked the nurse to wait while they brought the father-in-law back to the room to be present when she was pronounced dead. The father-in-law believes he was there holding her at the moment of her passing, but only the user and the nurse know the truth. The user has thought about telling their husband but has chosen not to since he finds comfort in believing he was there with his mother during her last moments.
