Tom Welling aimed to share a view of the New York City skyline on his Instagram Stories but accidentally revealed more than he meant to. The Smallville actor’s reflection, which showed him unclothed, quickly became a topic on social media after screenshots circulated widely. In response to the uproar, Welling used humor to engage with fans and comments about the incident.
On October 9, he posted a photo with the caption “Hello NYCC,” ahead of New York Comic Con. However, attentive viewers noticed his reflection in a hotel window, which remained visible for about 10 hours before he deleted the post. Despite this, numerous screenshots had already been shared. Welling chose to interact with multiple posts discussing the mishap, commenting that he “came for the sights” on a video where actor Trevor Larcom made light of the situation. He also engaged with various news articles, including a post from HELLO! magazine, where he added laughing emojis and joked about the skyline.
Michael Rosenbaum, Welling’s friend and former co-star, showed his support by posting a parody on his own Instagram. He posed humorously in front of a hotel window with a sign reading “PERVERTS” covering himself. Welling appreciated this display and reposted it with a soundtrack from Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
While some fans found the situation amusing, others expressed sympathy for Welling, noting that he simply wanted to share the city view before Comic Con. There were mixed reactions online, with some admiring his nonchalant attitude and others feeling embarrassed for him.
This viral moment coincided with Welling’s participation in a Smallville reunion panel at New York Comic Con, where he reminisced about the show with fellow stars Kristin Kreuk and Erica Durance. He did not address the window incident directly but mentioned another awkward experience during the panel.
