Hollywood recently saw the premiere of a new psychological thriller called “Verity,” featuring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson as its leads. The two actresses drew attention on the red carpet with their stunning outfits and lighthearted interactions. The event was held at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City on Tuesday evening, September 29.
Dakota Johnson wore an eye-catching ivory two-piece outfit that included a bralette-style crop top and a high-waisted maxi skirt. The crop top had a sweetheart neckline and thin spaghetti straps, with beautiful beaded fringe hanging from the hem. Her skirt was adorned with cascading crystal strands and featured a daring thigh-high slit. She completed her look with white strappy sandals that had a gold chain ankle strap. For accessories, she chose a diamond choker and small hoop earrings, while her hair was styled in a half-updo with a top knot and full bangs. A bold red lip and matching red nails added a bright touch to her all-white ensemble.

In contrast, Anne Hathaway opted for a glamorous black strapless gown that reflected old Hollywood elegance. The fitted bodice was richly decorated with beading and sequins, leading to a flowing tulle skirt that glimmered with diagonal sequins. A sheer black tulle panel created a long train behind her. Hathaway accessorized with striking drop earrings featuring green stones, stacked diamond bracelets, and rings on both hands. She wore her dark hair smooth and pulled back with a black headband, letting the rest fall straight. Her soft makeup included a nude-pink lip and a deep burgundy manicure.
The two stars arrived together, sharing warm embraces and laughter as they posed for photographers. In one fun moment, they were seen pointing at each other’s stomachs and bursting into laughter.
Hathaway and Johnson star in “Verity,” which is based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel. Before the premiere, Hathaway spoke about a scene that director Michael Showalter described as “erotic.” In an interview with Variety published on September 23, Showalter mentioned that a passionate makeout scene was improvised and not in the book. Hathaway, however, recalled that she had pitched the idea for that scene. She also shared her thoughts on how the book’s themes of obsession influenced her ideas for the film.
Hathaway mentioned that she was inspired by the character Lowen’s fixation on Verity and her desire to become Verity. She pitched this scene to Showalter and was pleased it made it into the movie. At the end of the scene, Showalter requested that Johnson scream, which Hathaway said was delivered exceptionally well. She expressed her fondness for dramatic screams in films and felt that Johnson’s scream was impressive and memorable.
“Verity” is set to be released in theaters on October 2. What do you think about the film’s themes and the actresses’ performances?
