Daughter Becomes Co-Pilot with Dad, While Mom Works as Cabin Crew: An Unexpected Full Circle Experience

A 22-year-old named Zoë had the chance to fly a commercial jet as a co-pilot with her father, who was the captain, while her mother worked as part of the cabin crew on the same flight. This took place on the Dutch airline KLM, departing from Amsterdam. The unexpected alignment of their schedules meant that none of them realized they would be on the same flight. Zoë has always admired her father, Michel, who has been a pilot for 35 years, and his work inspired her passion for flying. In August, she sat in the cockpit next to him while her mother, Marjan, tended to the passengers just a short distance away.

Zoë shared that it was a fantastic experience to fly with both her parents at the same time. She recalled how her father’s job seemed intriguing to her as a child, as she never knew where he was going. Zoë’s interest in aviation grew as she visited him at work. She attended KLM Flight Academy and was accepted at 17. After completing two years of training, she graduated and has since had the opportunity to fly with her father five times and once with her mother.
