Halloween is here, bringing a chance to feel a mix of thrills and chills. Despite watching horror movies, playing video games, and reading scary books, people still face real-life fears that can’t be fully prepared for. Online threads have shared some of the most frightening experiences people have had on Halloween. It’s easy to be calm until something truly scary happens.
One person recalled that as a child, they opened their front door during trick-or-treating and a large black cat ran inside, frightened and hiding under the kitchen table. They created a cozy spot for the cat in a back bedroom, and after telling neighbors and putting up flyers without success, they named the cat Satan. The family kept Satan safe in the back room every Halloween to prevent him from getting scared and running away again.

Another individual shared a story about a Halloween-themed cornfield that included someone wielding a chainsaw chasing after them.
One person mentioned a quieter Halloween memory from college when they sat at home playing a video game. Suddenly, a group of costumed children burst through the front door asking for candy. They were surprised because they were not expecting trick-or-treaters, especially since they didn’t have any candy to give.
Another story came from a person who remembered going trick-or-treating as a kid. They described taking a shortcut through the woods between neighborhoods. While walking along the trail one year, they were startled by a man in a cleverly made tree costume who enjoyed scaring the trick-or-treaters.
Many people enjoy the thrill of Halloween, despite the fear it may bring. Why do you think people seek out these spooky experiences?
