Thank you to everyone for your kind messages; they really mean a lot. I just wish this whole process wasn’t so costly. The cost for at-home euthanasia is $700, which feels very high and doesn’t make things easier. I don’t want to take him to the vet for his final moments. He dislikes car rides and visits to the vet, and I don’t want him to be scared during his last moments.
We brought him home in 2010 when he was just seven weeks old. Over the years, he has been with us through three different moves, including one across the country, the arrival of two kids, and even a tough time in our marriage. He also had an injury that resulted in losing half of his tongue. Now, at sixteen going on seventeen years old, he experienced a serious decline when his back legs gave out just two days ago. He can only walk a short distance, isn’t eating, has lost 60% of his body weight in recent months, and is slowly fading away. All he wants to do now is lay on my chest.

So, we have decided to do this at home, with him resting on me. He is my first baby, and I love him dearly. What are your thoughts on home euthanasia for pets?
