Izzie Grass’s parents became devoted caretakers of her kitten, Ricky, when she left him with them for two weeks. Grass did not expect the outcome when she returned to find that her mother had created a photobook titled “Ricky Goes to Gramma’s and Grampa’s” to document Ricky’s adventures. This album resembles a children’s book and gained popularity on TikTok in 2020, sparking interest in Ricky’s antics, such as how he helped his grandmother with the dishes and how her other pets, Jasper and Charlie, enjoyed the pancakes made for him.
Comments on the viral post reflect viewers’ admiration, with many expressing their affection for Ricky and his grandparents. Some shared their own similar experiences, such as one commenter mentioning a calendar made of their dog after only two days of care.

Grass shared with Newsweek that her mother crafted the book because creating sentimental gifts is something she enjoys doing. The story behind Ricky is quite remarkable, as it was almost tragic. He was brought to Grass’s veterinary clinic at nine weeks old for euthanasia due to serious health issues, including broken legs. Grass returned early from lunch to care for him, and it was determined that he did not need to be put down.
Grass took Ricky home but needed her mother’s help to get organized for his special care. This is when her mother made the photobook. Grass noted that Ricky’s unique health needs at the time make the photobook even more special. She talked about how far Ricky has come since then, highlighting his progress in walking, climbing, and running, as well as how he helps her with other kittens.
Despite some internet users mistakenly claiming the book was AI-generated due to Ricky’s unusual paws, Grass clarified that these characteristics are real and stem from his deformities. She emphasized the importance of spaying and neutering pets in her explanation. Grass regularly shares updates about Ricky and her other foster animals on her TikTok channel.
What do you think about the lengths grandparents will go for their grandchildren—even furry ones?
