Many people enjoy spending time alone, engaging in their hobbies and thoughts. It’s perfectly fine to want that. While friends or coworkers may invite you to a gathering, you might prefer to stay in and binge-watch your favorite shows while snacking on unhealthy treats. After a long week, it’s understandable to want some downtime before meeting up with others later. Feelings of social fatigue, the desire for solitude, and hesitation to be open with people can be very relatable, especially given the long lockdowns of recent years.

The ‘Antisocial Memes’ Instagram account has a wide variety of humorous content that many find amusing and relatable. The memes often reflect everyday thoughts and the feeling that life can sometimes be overwhelming, making people wish for a slower pace. Readers are encouraged to like the memes they enjoy and share their thoughts in the comments about which ones resonate with them the most.

Bored Panda spoke with Maria and Lide, the page’s administrators, as well as Suzanne Degges-White, a Licensed Counselor and Professor at Northern Illinois University, to learn more about the page’s background, extroversion, and the differences between antisocial behavior and introversion.

Maria founded the ‘Antisocial Memes’ account six years ago as a way to communicate her feelings through memes. She found it to be a platform to connect with others who share similar experiences and humor. She explained that she started the Instagram account to cope with her social anxiety and shyness, and found that creating and sharing memes helped her accept herself. As the page gained followers, she realized many people faced similar challenges. Their support motivated her to continue creating content that brings laughter and comfort to others.

Maria and her older sister now co-manage the page and have also launched a YouTube channel called Mental Warrior. They focus on raising awareness about social anxiety, depression, and related issues. Maria shared that there is no secret to the success of ‘Antisocial Memes’; it comes from hard work, dedication, and healthy humor. They strive to use humor that is not offensive, and they aim to show that many people share their feelings, which encourages more followers.

Maria believes that both introverts and extroverts have their unique strengths and that neither is inherently more valued. She encourages people to find their own talents and highlights the importance of self-acceptance. The YouTube channel aims to help individuals recognize the positive aspects of their personalities and to seek help if needed, as no one should feel alone.
