About four weeks ago, a person adopted a cat named Oliver from a family member. This family member had declawed Oliver and kept many animals. Oliver used to be an indoor-outdoor cat, but he now lives in a busier neighborhood compared to his previous home. Lately, Oliver has been urinating and even spraying in the house. He uses his litter box normally, but sometimes he still pees on things.

The person’s mother suggested letting Oliver go outside to be an outdoor cat, but the owner feels this would be harsh. The cat might get hurt or lost since he doesn’t know the area well. The owner is worried about Oliver’s safety and wants to keep him close. They have tried taking Oliver outdoors on a leash, which he seems to enjoy, but they believe he needs more than that.

The owner is concerned that no one would want to adopt an older cat with some territorial issues, but they don’t want to take him to a shelter. They have grown attached to Oliver and want to keep him. They have already taken him to the vet, and he is healthy. The owner noted that Oliver is neutered and typically uses his litter box, except for those few times when he doesn’t. What do you think about this situation?
