Kateryna Hrushevska (Lviv, 1903).

Kateryna Hrushevska was the only daughter of Mykhailo Hrushevsky, a well-known Ukrainian historian, writer, public figure, and leader of the Ukrainian Central Rada and the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR). Despite her own success as a scholar, she was often overshadowed by her father’s fame. Kateryna focused on areas such as history, ethnography, cultural studies, folklore, and ethnosociology, and she also worked as a translator. The unfortunate circumstances of her life highlight what might have happened to Mykhailo Hrushevsky if he had lived longer under Soviet rule. Following her father’s legacy, Kateryna dedicated herself to academia, helped him with his research, joined him during his exile, and completed his manuscripts after his passing. She created a significant collection of Ukrainian folk dumas, which are epic poems. What do you think about her contributions to Ukrainian culture?
