Last night, Apollo experienced another vasovagal episode, as his vet has described it. He vomited, producing a lot of smelly saliva, and then he lost control of his front end, falling onto the floor. This has occurred several times over the past year, and the vet believes that the vomiting irritates Apollo’s vasovagal nerve, which may cause him to nearly faint. Whenever this has happened, blood tests have shown normal results for him, except the first incident, which revealed he had developed hyperthyroidism. He is currently being treated for that and is doing well.
However, last night was different. After he fell, he cried out and then had three or four seizures. Apollo has a history of epilepsy but hadn’t had a seizure in quite some time, and this episode did not resemble his usual seizures. After these vasovagal events, he typically avoids contact and rests on his sister’s blanket until he feels better. His sister Luna passed away in January, and he often lies on the blanket that still carries her scent, especially when he is unwell.

Yesterday, instead of retreating, he wanted to be held for several minutes afterward and was breathing heavily as if he had just run a mile. Before Luna’s death, he would come straight to me when he felt bad. I was talking to the vet when he left my lap. The staff at our regular vet knows Apollo well since he has some special needs. They recently brought in a new vet who hasn’t treated him before, and it was close to closing time. After discussing it and getting advice from his regular vet through text, we decided he should see his regular vet today. I felt okay keeping an eye on him overnight, and I was instructed to take him to the emergency room if he had another episode before his appointment. I am worried about him. He means a lot to me, especially since Luna passed. Right now, he is lying on me as I write this. Please send some good thoughts his way today. We will be leaving soon. What are your thoughts?
