A family of kittens in western Turkey gained attention after an unusual visit to a hospital. This was not an animal hospital, but a human one, and it was the mother cat who brought them in. As reported by Gulf Today, hospital staff had been leaving food and water for a stray orange tabby cat outside the facility in Izmir, Turkey. One morning, however, the cat was meowing persistently outside the hospital.

Determined to get help for her kittens, the mother cat picked up one of her babies and entered the hospital. She walked confidently through the building, not showing any fear while hospital staff cleared the way for her. With her kitten in her mouth, she moved down the hall looking for assistance. Medical staff quickly examined the kitten and its siblings and consulted a veterinary clinic. They discovered that the kittens had an eye infection.

The mother cat’s protective instincts were remarkable. Video footage captured the heartwarming moment. According to the Daily Mail, a hospital employee shared with local media that staff had been taking care of the mother cat living on the street. However, they were unaware that she had given birth to kittens. When the morning shift began, she arrived with her kittens and cried for help. The hospital staff were surprised. After a thorough examination, they found out the kittens could not open their eyes because of the infection. They consulted veterinarians and provided the necessary medicine. Soon after, the kittens opened their eyes, which delighted the staff. Later, both the mother cat and her kittens were sent to Uzundere for additional care. The employee noted that it was the first time such an event occurred at the hospital. They felt emotional and happy to see the kittens recover.

This isn’t the first instance in Turkey where a mother cat has brought her kittens to a hospital. Last spring, another cat entered an emergency room in Istanbul with her kitten in her mouth. Merve Özcan described this event on Twitter, which gained viral attention at the time. She wrote about witnessing a cat rushing into the hospital carrying her baby, noting that the kitten was a bit playful and that the mother seemed to grab it wherever she found it.

Medical staff assessed the kittens for any signs of illness while providing food and milk to the mother cat. Afterward, they sent the cats to a veterinarian. Bored Panda remarked that Turks are well-known for their compassion towards stray animals, often leaving food and water for them on the streets. This kindness may explain why these cats felt at ease bringing their kittens to human hospitals for help.

While the exact reasons for these mothers bringing their young to medical professionals remain unclear, it is evident that their instinct to protect their kittens is strong. Would you feel comfortable helping a stray cat in need?
