Nicholas Rodney Drake was an English musician, born on June 19, 1948, and he passed away on November 25, 1974. He was known for his skill as an acoustic guitarist. At the age of twenty, while still attending the University of Cambridge, he signed with Island Records. His first album, Five Leaves Left, came out in 1969, followed by Bryter Layter in 1971 and Pink Moon in 1972. Although he did not gain a large following during his life, his music received more recognition after he died.
Drake struggled with depression and often avoided live performances. After finishing Pink Moon, he stopped recording and performing, moving back to his parents’ home in rural Warwickshire. He died from an overdose of antidepressants at the young age of 26. His music remained in circulation through the mid-1970s, but a retrospective collection titled Fruit Tree, released in 1979, helped people reevaluate his work. Many artists have cited him as an influence. The first biography of Drake in English was published in 1997, and it was followed by documentary films in 1999 and 2000.
