Officer Disturbed After Finding Alarming Crime Scene in College Freshman's Car

An 18-year-old college freshman named Karoline Heintz was found dead in the trunk of her Jeep, with bodycam footage showing the police’s shocked reactions when they discovered her. Officers were called after her parents reported her missing and noted that her Apple AirTag indicated her vehicle was near a library in Pennsylvania. Investigators now allege that Heintz’s boyfriend, Royce Moser, and his mother, Rachel Moser, were involved in her death.

Heintz’s body was located in her gray Jeep on August 20 in California, Pennsylvania, which is around 36 miles from Pittsburgh. She had just started her college journey, intending to play Division II soccer at PennWest University while studying biology with hopes of attending medical school. The police arrived after Heintz’s parents reported her absence, using the AirTag’s location to find her car.

Footage obtained shows an officer searching the area near the library. Upon spotting Heintz’s vehicle, he swiftly approached and called for assistance. After confirming her lifeless state, he used force to gain entry into the SUV. Paramedics and firefighters soon arrived at the scene, and Heintz’s father came to the location before being taken to the police station.

According to the criminal complaint, Royce Moser has been accused of stabbing Heintz. The document states that Moser brought Heintz to his residence where a disagreement occurred. He reportedly claimed to investigators that he became enraged and felt as if he was possessed. Moser allegedly took a knife from inside his home and returned to stab Heintz, who then fell out of the car. He is said to have dragged her body to the back of the vehicle and contacted his mother, Rachel, for help in disposing of Heintz’s remains. Initially, neither of them spoke to the police about the crime, but they later admitted their involvement. They have not yet entered any pleas.

During a preliminary hearing on September 1, prosecutors presented multiple pieces of evidence and six witnesses that they argue demonstrate the collaboration between Royce and Rachel after Heintz’s death. The evidence included images of knives that appeared to belong to a kitchen set, as well as video footage showing the mother and son following the alleged murder. Additional recordings depicted them driving while wearing latex gloves. Investigators also examined phone records and internet searches from Royce’s device, including a query that suggested what it would be like if a demon influenced someone to commit murder.
