In Maryville, Tennessee, a surprising act of kindness took place when an elderly theater worker received $146,000 for her retirement through a GoFundMe campaign. This effort began with 21-year-old Brooklyn Green, who decided to watch a movie at a local AMC theater. While there, she noticed an older woman collecting trash with a bent back and was impressed by her hard work.
Green recorded a TikTok video showing the worker pushing her trash cart and thought it might be a good idea to start a GoFundMe page, hoping to raise enough money for a month’s rent from family and friends. However, the video went viral, and within the first day, the campaign gathered over $100,000.
The following day, Green went back to the theater to surprise the worker, named Mary, but Mary was not present that day. The shift manager shared that she had been working in theaters for more than 45 years and mentioned that Mary enjoyed her job, but was concerned that retiring might negatively affect her life.
Eventually, Green was able to meet Mary in a recorded moment for those who had donated. Mary expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the campaign.
What do you think about this act of generosity?
