Living with cats can mean sharing your home with creatures that seem to set their own rules. They can turn a peaceful evening, an open trash bin, or even a flying insect into an exciting adventure, often involving their humans in the fun, whether planned or not. Akeem S. Roberts, a cartoonist, illustrator, and animator from Brooklyn, New York, knows this pet unpredictability well. He has teamed up with various clients, including The New Yorker, BOOM! Studios, and Hasbro. Besides his client work, which was recently highlighted on Bored Panda, Roberts also creates weekly comics about his life with his wife and their two black cats, named Praline and Truffle.
In these comics, Praline and Truffle get to speak, allowing Roberts to explore the thoughts behind familiar cat behaviors. One moment, they might be rummaging through the trash as if it’s filled with treasure, and the next, they’re scheming on how to wake their human, gazing into empty spaces, or deciding that chasing a fly is too much trouble. This playful inner dialogue is what makes the comics relatable. Although these conversations come from Roberts’ imagination, the stubbornness, curiosity, odd interests, and sudden playful antics are likely familiar to anyone who has cats at home. Check out Praline and Truffle’s adventures and enjoy the comics that capture the surprising reality of living with two cats. What do you think of their antics?
