The cat that we fostered was supposed to have an application already, so we were told we could not adopt him. The shelter suggested a meet and greet with the potential adopter to see if we could negotiate keeping him, but that did not happen. When we arrived at the shelter, staff took the cat and quickly handed him over to the adopter. It felt very chaotic. My fiancé tried to argue and reason with them, and we were both upset. The manager seemed uninterested and just said she was doing her job. We explained that we had not received any notification about the adoption interest, but she insisted she had informed us, which felt like she was lying. She told us that only another staff member in a different building could help us, so we went to speak with her. We explained that the message about the adoption interest had gone to the wrong person, which is why we never saw it. After checking the message logs, she confirmed it was true and said she would allow us to adopt the cat. However, we would need to pay for his medical fees, and they said we could not continue working with them. We agreed to the terms because we felt we had no choice. Now, we are happy to introduce Nelson, who has found his forever home! What do you think of our story?
