An Airbnb guest shared a complaint about her vacation rental, but her experience has led some people online to question whether she was in the wrong. Leah, who goes by the handle “I Am Leah” on X, described a situation where the Airbnb host reportedly advised her not to harm the spiders in his home. Instead of supporting her, many internet users began defending the host. One commenter mentioned being on the landlord’s side for a change.
Leah detailed her discovery of large spiders in the rental property, but the host, named Peter, disagreed with her account. On Sunday, October 25, Leah posted about the situation, mentioning that the host wanted guests to wash dishes and strip beds but asked them not to kill the spiders. She contacted Peter after arriving and found spiders in the property, asking for a refund and sharing a photo of a small spider on the ceiling.

Peter responded by saying he checked the house and only found one harmless spider. He mentioned he had gone to the property to remove it and felt the guests should have reached out to him first. He explained that since the property is near a wooded area, small creatures occasionally visit.
Leah insisted the issue was worse than Peter indicated, claiming there were multiple spiders. She mentioned her husband had killed a few and that most guests would likely be uncomfortable with the situation. Peter declined her refund request and argued that the guests should have contacted him before leaving.
Peter’s response did not resolve the disagreement. He explained that he lived nearby and could have easily addressed the issue if Leah had informed him. He also expressed that he thought killing the spiders was unnecessary, calling them harmless and suggesting that people’s fear of spiders led to harmful actions against them.
In reaction to Leah’s post, many commenters criticized her, noting that spiders can provide benefits by controlling other insect populations. Some users found her request for a refund embarrassing, while others remarked that they rarely sided with landlords but found themselves on Peter’s side this time. Overall, Leah faced negative feedback, with comments suggesting that she was in the wrong.
