Akie Nakata, known online as Stone Artist Akie, is a self-taught artist who sees potential in ordinary stones. She has been collecting stones since childhood, and her painting career began in 2011 when she found a pebble that resembled a rabbit.
Akie gathers stones from riverbanks in Saitama, northwest of Tokyo, and she never reshapes them. Instead, she paints the animals she imagines are inside the stones, using their natural curves and ridges as her guide. She works with acrylic gouache and tiny brushes, adding details like eyes, noses, and fur to create lifelike representations of animals.
Her artworks are highly sought after, with pieces listed for sale on her Facebook page often selling out quickly. This collection features 30 of her dog-themed works, showcasing everything from sleepy puppies to familiar breeds with convincing expressions.
