Callum Smith is a 23-year-old racing driver who has no arms and drives using his feet. He has reached speeds over 110 mph on the racetrack. Recently, Smith became part of Team BRIT, which is the only racing team in the world composed entirely of drivers with disabilities. He is now working towards competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a prestigious motorsport event.
Smith, who was born without arms, developed a passion for racing at the age of two after watching motorcycle races with his grandfather. His journey into racing began when he sent an email to Team BRIT, expressing his desire to race. After they responded positively, he passed various tests, including a skid test, which paved the way for his racing career.

In July 2025, Smith experienced his first track day, where he reached a top speed of 90 mph at Donington Park. Four months ago, he achieved an impressive speed of 100 mph at the Silverstone Formula One circuit in his own Audi A3. He is currently training to obtain his racing license and is practicing with Team BRIT’s modified BMW 1 Series, learning to use a special control setup. This includes a flat plate that enables him to steer with his feet, while his left foot handles the steering and his right foot manages the gas and brake pedals.
Smith has adapted well to the controls, which also feature buttons for the horn, headlights, and other functions. However, he finds it challenging, especially with the need for good coordination between his eyes and feet. He noted that the steering in a race car feels heavier than expected. Despite these challenges, Smith is determined to succeed in his racing endeavors. He aims to make history as the first person to race competitively without arms.
