Lemon and cinnamon 'tastes like Coca-Cola' plus 6 other unusual combinations that resemble different foods

Many people have mixed different foods together, like when you’re hungry and only have a peach yogurt and chocolate cocoa powder. You might wonder how those flavors would taste together. After mixing them, you could end up with a tasty treat that reminds you of peach cobbler. One woman took this idea further. Inspired by TikToker and Instagram user Eat with GG (@ggflavour), influencer Social Sami (@socialsami) decided to try a challenge with food combinations. The goal is to see if mixing certain flavors can make them taste like something completely different.

In an Instagram reel, Sami sat in front of a big plate with different foods arranged separately. The text on the screen said, “Trying weird food combos.” She explained that they were going to test some unusual combinations that are supposed to taste like other dishes.

First, she tried banana and avocado, claiming it should taste like ice cream. After mashing them together with a fork, she tasted it but didn’t find it very impressive, although she could see how it might work.

Next, she held up a slice of cucumber topped with a lemon wedge, saying that this mixture should taste like lime. After tasting it, she made a sour face and confirmed, “That’s a lime!”

Sami then paired cucumber with sugar, stating that it should taste like watermelon. After tasting it, she smiled and said, “That’s kind of crazy!”

For another combination, she sprinkled sugar on a tomato, which she said should taste like a strawberry. After tasting, she was surprised and said, “I don’t know how that worked…tasted strawberry!”

Next, she made a chip-and-tomato sandwich using salty potato chips and a tomato, stating this should taste like pizza. She agreed that this was an obvious pairing and that it worked well.

Then, Sami tried a slice of lemon with a sprinkle of cinnamon, which she said was supposed to taste like Coca-Cola. After tasting it, she was impressed and said, “Yeah! That’s crazy!”

Finally, she mixed melon and banana, saying it should taste like bubble gum. After trying it, she was amazed and said, “It really tastes like bubble gum. Like how?!”

Sami’s video received over 3 million likes and 20,000 comments, with many viewers impressed by the results. A food chemist who commented explained that this happens because our taste buds can recognize only 13 basic flavors. They noted that what people think of as “strawberry” flavor actually comes from a mix of these basic flavors. This comment gained over 70,000 likes.

In the comments, some viewers made fun jokes about the combinations. What unusual food mixes have you tried?
