While lying in bed, the author heard meowing from the backyard. Their two cats were already with them, so it was clear that the sound was coming from another cat. Upon going outside, they discovered a cat had been trapped in the storage room. After letting the cat out, it quickly ran away.
Later, after a challenging therapy session, the author and their spouse returned home. The same little cat followed them, meowing for food. Noticing it looked thin, they provided some canned food and water, which it eagerly consumed. For the past two days, they have been giving the cat food and water. Today, the cat returned for more. It is quite skittish, but the author has been trying to gain its trust. They managed to get within three feet of the cat and confirm it is male. The author hopes to become friends with the cat before winter, and while the winters are mild in the desert, they plan to create shelter if needed.
