At a recent cheerleading competition in Georgia, a brave 14-year-old named Jorgia Walls performed alone after her entire 8th-grade team had to leave. Initially excited to start the year with seven teammates, Walls was devastated when circumstances caused each of them to drop out. Eventually, she found herself as the last member standing.
Her coaches offered her options as the Gwinnett Football League Kim Massengill Cheer Off approached. They suggested she could join the 7th graders or quit altogether, but Walls wanted to keep going. On October 25, 2026, she took the mat by herself at the Buford Arena in Buford, GA. Competing in the 8th-grade “small team” division, she faced groups that typically had seven or eight members. With her coaches, she created a two-minute routine to The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.”

Walls was determined to do her best and aimed for more than just participating. One of her coaches, Kenya Barbour, noted that Walls was resolute about going solo and dedicated herself to the preparations. When the performance began, the audience of over 1,500 erupted with excitement, and Walls showed no signs of nerves during her routine. Barbour later described the moment as emotional and rewarding.
Walls’ efforts were recognized when she won 1st place in her division at the end of the night. Her parents had enrolled her in cheerleading to help build her confidence and public speaking skills. From being a shy kindergartener to performing in front of a large crowd, she had certainly achieved that goal. In a video interview, Walls encouraged others to follow their confidence and not let nerves hold them back. What do you think about her inspiring journey?
