Charles Spencer, the brother of Princess Diana, recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing issues between his nephews, Prince William and Prince Harry. He expressed that he would support either of them without hesitation, even though they are currently not in contact. Spencer also mentioned what he thinks his late sister would have wanted for her sons.
In an interview with the BBC, which aired on September 20, Spencer discussed his new book, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” which was published on September 22. He noted that he does not take sides and emphasized that he is on the side of both of his sister’s sons. He stated that if either William or Harry needed help, he would be there for them, and he hopes to remain a neutral figure.

Spencer acknowledged that many factors contributed to the brothers’ strained relationship and expressed hope for a resolution in the future. However, he admitted that he does not know all the details surrounding their issues and felt it would be intrusive to get more involved. He reflected that any mother would desire her children to be happy and loving toward each other.
The relationship between William and Harry has been complicated since Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Sources have indicated that the brothers are still estranged without direct communication. While Prince Harry has shown interest in reconciliation, sources close to Prince William and Princess Catherine have suggested that deep hurt remains from their falling out.
Spencer’s comments followed recent excerpts from his book that discussed his thoughts on the response of King Charles after Diana’s tragic death in 1997. In his book, Spencer recounted a disagreement with the then-Prince regarding whether William and Harry should walk behind their mother’s coffin during her funeral. He claimed that Diana would not have wanted her sons to endure such a situation, but the final decision rested with their father. Spencer described a tense phone call with Charles about this matter.
After the initial excerpts of his memoir were released, Buckingham Palace issued a rare statement acknowledging the pain of loss and how it can affect a person’s thoughts and feelings.
