Russell Brand has been convicted of assault and serious incident, with new police interrogation footage showing how he reacted to the allegations during questioning. The interviews took place between 2023 and 2025, and in them, Brand consistently denied the charges while acknowledging his past of being promiscuous. However, when detectives brought up specific accusations from women, his replies were often very short. The footage gives insight into his statements to police before his conviction, including a particularly troubling claim that was read to him during the interrogation.
On November 5, the Metropolitan Police made public a recording of Brand’s interview from December 14, 2023, which was after his conviction at Southwark Crown Court. The video features investigators asking Brand about the allegations of assault and serious incident made by several women. Accompanied by his lawyer during one of the interviews, Brand insisted that his past relations were consensual. He read a prepared statement to the detectives, stating that he had lived a promiscuous life, which he has criticized publicly over the years, and emphasized that he had never participated in non-consensual sexual acts.

Brand also rejected claims that arose from a 2023 investigation by Channel 4 and The Times, calling the reporting both defamatory and fictional. He mentioned that he did not remember the names of the complainants or meeting them, but acknowledged the possibility of having had consensual sexual interactions with them. He described some of these interactions as occurring during public events, such as live shows and book signings, aiming to be accessible and welcoming.
Additionally, Brand admitted that he sometimes made provocative jokes and occasionally asked his casual partners to leave shortly after their encounters. He argued that his consensual experiences have been misrepresented over the years. The released footage shows detectives reading a woman’s allegations during one interview. According to her, she and Brand had initially consented to intimacy, but later, the investigator explained that the condom Brand had been using was found on the floor during the alleged assault. The officer detailed that Brand asked her to clean up before leaving the room, and another man later told her she needed to exit because Brand had another show that night.
The woman also claimed that the same driver who took her to Brand’s home later dropped her off at Hampstead tube station. After the investigator presented her account, he asked Brand how he would respond to the allegation. Brand stated he had nothing more to add at that moment. Throughout this part of the questioning, he remained mostly silent as the investigator outlined the woman’s claims, which were linked to the 2009 assault charge for which Brand was convicted.
The footage was made public shortly after a jury found Brand guilty of one count of assault and three counts of serious incident on November 5 following a trial at Southwark Crown Court. What are your thoughts on the footage released and the allegations against Brand?
